Here’s How You Can Use Cornstarch To Heal Your Itchy, Bumpy Razor Burn

I am not a woman who shaves my legs out of pure enjoyment or because it makes me feel like I’m living my best life.

When I do finally break out a razor, it’s because the weather is 90 degrees of blazing sunshine, and shorts have just become a necessity.

It probably doesn’t surprise you that your delicate skin hates nothing more than having a razor blade scratched against it repeatedly, particularly if you’re doing that “speed shave” five minutes before a fling arrives at your door, or you suddenly have to wear a bikini the size of a very small napkin.

Razor burn is the curse of the lazy and the speedy, my friends. Those angry red bumps will spring up in seconds and stay (unwelcome) for days while you’re just trying for tan goddess gams.

What’s a girl to do, other than hide or pretend you have bed bugs (not the optimal choice)?

Luckily, savvy (and budget-friendly) minds have been relying on pantry staples for beauty fixes for years.

Cornstarch, which you may keep on hand to thicken gravy and sauces, works to soothe skin and provide a layer of protection. When it comes to irritation, razor burn is no match for the white powder.

Here’s how we do it:

First, line up your supplies.

Obviously, you’ll be shaving with a razor and cream, but you’ll also need cornstarch and cotton pads for removing it afterward. We’re using a Venus Swirl razor and Malin + Goetz shaving cream.

Shave your limbs until you become the rare and desirable hairless she-beast.

Feeling itchy with bumps?

Either sprinkle cornstarch on the area, or mix it with a little water to form a paste before applying.

Rub the cornstarch on, ensuring you have an even layer of coating on the irritated area.

Let it sit for 20 minutes while you watch TV, or text your friends about how strange this experience is.

Rinse and repeat as needed. No more bumps!
